Submariner 1680, 5513 bezel and retaining ring dimensions

Below are my measurements for the Submariner 1680, 5513, 5512 bezel dimensions along with dimensions for the crystal retaining ring which holds the bezel to the watch. (The measurements could be off by a tenth of a millimeter on some of the dimensions but when comparing these sizes to another bezel or crystal retaining ring, it should be very close to the sizes given here.)

Bezels and crystal retaining rings can provide hours of frustration when trying to fit them properly. It is not uncommon when replacing a bezel on a watch (whether it is a new or used bezel) for it to not fit properly or snap on to the bezel retaining ring - whether it be too loose or too tight. My best advice is - if the bezel you are trying to install on your Submariner, Sea Dweller or GMT does not fit or snap to the crystal retaining ring properly is to seek the expertise of a qualified watchmaker. We are talking tenths of millimeters for them to fit properly, and there is a good chance that a bezel assembly that was fit to another watch might not work on the watch you are trying to place it on.

Below are a couple charts depicting Submariner 1680/5513/5512 bezel and crystal retaining ring dimensions as well as some photos of a bezel from a vintage Submariner 1680.

NOTE: SEA DWELLER 1665 and SUBMARINER 1680/5513 bezels are not interchangeable between watches. The Sea Dweller 1665 bezel is thicker and has a smaller diameter at the base. It will not work on a Submariner 1680/5513. SUBMARINER 1680/5513 bezel inserts and SEA DWELLER bezel inserts are interchangeable and will fit either bezel.
